Super skin care tips post facial treatment in Malaysia

Women get facial treatment in Malaysia at least once in two weeks and it is required by the skin too. Facial removes dead skin cells, clears the skin pores, scrubs and exfoliates the skin. A facial is thus very important to maintain the glow of your face.

Post-facial rules can be dependent on your skin sensitivity and the intensity of the facial. The basic “facial after-effect” includes a rosiness that can last up to two hours. Many people ask if they can apply makeup after a facial. The answer is yes, technically, but I encourage clients to give their skin a treat by giving it a chance to breathe and soak up the effects of the treatment. Having your facial later in the day or early evening is ideal, as you leave the treatment with “bed-ready” skin that will rest for another few hours.

The first 24-48 hours post-facial are the most essential to guaranteeing your skin has time to completely refresh itself and to breath. Follow these tips to get the most of your facial:

Minimise UV Exposure

Try to avoid the sun immediately after your treatment as the top layer of dead skin cells will have been removed in your treatment therefore making your skin particularly sensitive to sunlight. Most facials include an exfoliant or light peel to activate new skin cells which aids the treatment in giving you a fresh look. For this reason, it is very important to protect your face, and other areas by avoiding or limiting sun exposure and selecting the right sunscreen. Titanium oxide and zinc oxide are ideal ingredients in products for your skin. They work by physically blocking the UV light from being absorbed into your epidermis. Choose a minimum of SPF 30, and reapply every 80 minutes if you are outdoors.

Drinking plenty of water

Drinking plenty of water (1.5 - 2 litres a day) will greatly improve the skins complexion and help rid the body of toxins giving you a healthy glow. Well-hydrated cells carry out their functions better. After a facial, you're a step ahead of the glowing-skin game.

Minimise Cleansing and Exfoliants

The use of soaps, facial cleansers, facewashes or make-up removal products should be avoided for two days at least. Soaps should also be avoided. After your facial your skin is clean, refreshed, and radiant. You can make it last longer post treatment by avoiding over cleansing, using harsh toners, or heavy creams. Instead, use a soap free cleanser, and a light to mid weight moisturizer. There are certain ingredients in products that should be avoided for at least 24 hours such as BHA/AHA, or Retin-A. These ingredients may cause irritation and redness. Only if the skin is oily, we can use cold water for washing the face.

Minimise caffeine or alcohol consumption

Try to avoid drinking caffeine or alcohol where possible as these are highly dehydrating to the skin, making the skin dry and dull.

Avoid Make-up

Never start to apply make-up after a facial. Your pores have just been cleaned and require oxygen, so do not clog them.
